A breeze to cool
The 6 hot swappable fans come in 3 different types. Standard (STD) fans or the High performance Silver (HPR) fans or the High performance Gold (VHP) fans. Most configurations have the Standard Fan kit, If you install the BOSS-N1, GPU, or Rear Drives, Fan 1 will be upgraded to a GOLD fan. Below is a table outlining each config.

All models support the BOSS option, with the exception of the 12 Bay Chassis. All other options support up to 2 GPUs if both CPUs are installed. The 12 Bay is the only config to support the rear bay option.

Rear Bay Drive Options:
Only Supported on the 12 Bay Chassis. The rear-drive module doesn't support Kioxia CM6 series, Samsung PM1735 series, Hynix PE8010 7.68TB, Samsung PM1733a > 1.92TB, Samsung PM1735a > 1.6TB and Redtail NVMe drive.

NOTE:
The 16 x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA backplane configuration is a combination of two 8 x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA backplanes, in 16 x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA 8 x 2.5-inch NVMe backplane configuration and 16 x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA configuration in PowerEdge R760xs.
Limitations with the 12 LFF Chassis
The 12 Bay Chassis has some major restrictions with Thermal and what gear can be installed.
- Cannot support PCIe card with the cooling requirement of more than 300LFM at 55C.
- Cannot support OCP card with a cooling requirement of more than 250LFM at 55C
(3Y64D / 4TRD3 / GGGDF / R1KTR / Y4VV5) . - Solarflare Melrose DP 25 GBE SFP28 (TTKWY) not supported.
- 100 Gb network adapter or 100 Gb OCP is not supported.
- The 12 Bay Chassis requires the optical transceiver with higher temperature spec (≥ 85°C) to support (M14MK / N8TDR).
- The 12 Bay Chassis is the only one to support the rear drive cage.

- New built-in accelerators for data analytics, networking, storage, crypto, and data compression
The Dell R760XS Rack Server has 2 Heatsinks options that will change based on the TDP of the Processors. The Dell R760xs also has 3 different types of Fans; Standard, Silver, and Gold Fans. These fans will be changed based on other components installed. Below is a table outlining those changes.
Heatsink (HSK) TDP Rules
If the processor's TDP is below 185W an STD HSK will be installed otherwise the Highperformance HSK will be installed.
Except the 12 Bay Chassis with a Processor that has a TDP below 125W supports the Standard Heatsink.
Fan Config Rules
Optional fan zone 1 has to be populated with HPR Gold fan for BOSS, GPU, or rear drive module populations. A fan blank is required on fan zone 1 when no fan is populated

The Dell R760XS Rack Server on a two-socket configuration supports 16 DDR5 DIMM slots. Up to 1TB of RDIMM with speeds up to 4800 MT/s and supports registered ECC DDR5 DIMMs only.
- All DIMMs must be DDR5
- Memory mixing is not supported for different DIMM capacities.
- A minimum of 1 DIMM must be populated for each installed processor.

The LOM and OCP are great ways to expand the networkability of the server. The LOM is built into the system board and supports 2x 1GbE ports. While the Optional OCP 3.0 supports 4 ports up to speeds of 25Gb/s. If the OCP card is installed without the rear riser, The OCP air shroud must be installed.

This system can support Single or Dual processors configurations. Based on the Socket configuration the sytem can hold from 2 LP Gen 4 slots. Up to 6 PCIe slots rangeing from x8 Gen4 to x16 Gen5. Only one cable riser can be installed at a time in any given configuration.
Slots 1, 2, 5, and 6 are Gen4 slots, slots 3 and 4 located on risers are Gen5 slots.
